Maddalena Meucci x HOJ

Ahead of the opening of our pop up store, we contacted the Italian interior architect Maddalena Meucci to bring the universe of House of J into our London pop up store on Oxford Street. We felt in love with her distinctive and playfull ideas, and on that occasion we asked her a few questions to get to know Maddalena a little bit better.

Where are you from and where in the world are you now?

I am Italian and at the moment I live in London.

How would you describe your designs and a Aesthetic? And Where do you get inspiration from?

I always try to think out of the box and everyday I am looking for a new inspiration from nature, art, space, photography everything that could be inspiring to me.
I like this citation from the Arch. Mies Van Der Rohe :” Less is more” and starting from my academic path I’ve always followed this idea.

What did you create for House of J?

It was really special to collaborate on this project for me. It was easy to find a good solution for the space because me and Jane Marle (the founder) had the same idea on our mind. The brand inspired me and I had designed a space to show the main concept of the brand: relax, natural and harmony.

Do you have any ongoing projects at the moment?

At the moment I am working for an architectural firm in London. But I would like to give my support to other interesting projects like this one.

What is your dream project?

I did my master in interior architecture/ exhibition design at Politecnico in Milan and I would love to experiment more in this field.

What does intuition mean to you? And do you follow it often?

Usually the best intuition comes when a problem needs to be solved. I try to have many ideas until I am happy with only one, which I then decide to follow.
In my job, ideas may come at any moments of the day, especially during the night. You need to be ready to catch it 🙂

Come discover our beautiful pop up store open from November 17 to December 5 at 54-56 Oxford Street, London W1D 1BQ. (Mon – Sat 10:30am to 6pm, Sun 11am to 6pm).
