We were so happy to meet Ayurvedic Specialist and Astrologer: Aya from Moon and Soma who showed us some great Ayurvedic recipes for the Autumn season (recipes coming soon)! We have interviewed her.
Who are you, where are you from and where in the world are you now?
My name is Aya and I am an Ayurvedic practitioner and lifelong student of the Vedic sciences. I am also a tea enthusiast and have studied tea ceremony in Japan. I was born and raised in Tokyo and am currently in London.
How often do you take some “me time” and how important it is for you?
The time that I spend with myself is precious to me and I rely on it to stay balanced and resilient against the stressors of city life. I would love to dedicate a couple of hours daily to my own self care, but sometimes it can be as brief as my ten minutes in the morning with a cup of tea, a walk in the park between meetings, or a self foot massage before bed.
What are your favourite wellbeing rituals to do at home?
My morning ritual is to brew some sencha and sip slowly as I meditate on the day ahead. In the evenings, I like to wind down with some incense and a herbal infusion. I also like to give myself an abhyanga, a self-massage with oil, as a grounding act of self-love. Abhyanga is a cornerstone of the Ayurvedic dinacharya or daily routine for its numerous health benefits.
What are the benefits of your brand to a person’s wellbeing?
Ayurveda is an ancient science and way of life that will bring you into greater awareness of your body’s natural rhythm and the cyclical nature of the universe. It gives us the tools to understand the unique qualities of our own bodies and minds, through which we can find ways to live in better balance and harmony across all aspects of our health. Ayurveda has forever changed my perspective on health and is a humbling reminder of our intrinsic connection to nature.
One piece of advise to help reconnecting with our body?
Slow down and listen to your body’s wisdom. Be gentle, be kind, and thank it for the miracle that it is.
